As
an attorney for the United Steelworkers International Union, I
have been truly blessed. I get to work on behalf of working
families all over the United States and its territories. It is
work that is consistent with my political and social beliefs,
and that makes me not only fortunate, but it also makes me a
humble servant to those who form the backbone of our society and
our economy.
Since my appointment to
Allegheny County Council in March of 2008, I have expanded my
service to the community by acting as the voice of the people
for Council District 13. My agenda has simply been a reflection
of the people’s agenda about which I have learned by simply
listening to the people. During only my first nine (9) months
on County Council, I introduced legislation to audit the voting
machines used in elections after listening to members of the
community who had concerns about the accuracy of the voting
machines. I also introduced legislation to form a county-wide
Human Relations Commission to enforce an ordinance to prohibit
discrimination against people in employment, housing and public
accommodations, based on their race, religion, and sexual
orientation, among other things. I introduced this legislation
after listening to members of the community who were concerned
about the need to address and redress allegations of
discrimination locally.
Keep me as your Council
representative for District 13, and you will hear more from me
as I continue to be responsive to the needs and concerns of you
– the people. Keep Green for Council District 13 because I’m
listening.
